A Surprise Falling from the Sky
In celebration of MAR10 Day, Nintendo has pulled back the curtain on the next chapter for everyone’s favorite green dinosaur. "Yoshi and the Mysterious Book" is set to make its grand debut on May 21, 2026, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2. The adventure begins when a peculiar, talking encyclopedia named Mr. E falls from the sky onto Yoshi’s Island. To help restore the book's missing information, Yoshi must dive headfirst into its magical pages to document the many creatures living within.
Investigate Through Action
Unlike traditional platformers where enemies are simply obstacles, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book encourages players to experiment. Yoshi can eat, jump on, or even carry creatures on his back to reveal their hidden traits. For example, the latest trailer showcases a special frog that blows bubbles; by carrying the frog, Yoshi can create a floating staircase of bubbles to reach high-altitude secrets. Feeding these creatures different items can even change their colors or the properties of their abilities, adding a layer of puzzle-solving to the classic Yoshi gameplay.
The Path to Discovery
As Yoshi discovers new characteristics, the pages of Mr. E begin to fill with life. Players have the creative freedom to name the creatures themselves or consult Mr. E for their "official" titles. Filling the encyclopedia earns Stars, which are essential for unlocking new chapters set in diverse biomes, from misty mountains to deep oceans. Depending on the creatures encountered, Yoshi's playstyle shifts dramatically—allowing him to fly, swim, or even move like a high-speed drill.
The Year of Yoshi
The game concludes with a teaser of Bowser Jr., suggesting that Yoshi’s research mission won't be without its share of trouble. With a theatrical appearance also on the horizon this April, 2026 is quickly shaping up to be the "Year of Yoshi." Fans can look forward to this vibrant, high-definition adventure when it hits shelves and the Nintendo eShop this May.
